Lime hydroxide, also known as slaked lime, is a product normally used as a neutralizer, flux, causticant, lubricant, drying agent, cementitious, disinfectant or waterproofing agent.
Product of natural origin used in: agriculture and livestock, industry and the environment to adjust the pH and hardness of water, remineralization, removal of metals, treatment of sewage sludge and in general for drinking water, industrial water or wastewater. In MSW incinerators and thermal power plants for gas treatment. In construction, for the manufacture of masonry mortars and for the stabilization of clay soils.
It is used as a neutralizer, flux, causticant, lubricant, drying agent, cementitious, absorbent, precipitant, disinfectant, waterproofing...
Thanks to its high purity, fineness and whiteness, it has countless uses in the food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
To make lime mortar, the proportion usually used is 1 part lime and 3 parts sand.
To slake quicklime, a ratio of 4 litres of water to 1 kg of lime is usually used. Care must be taken when making this mixture, because an exothermic reaction takes place which can produce a lot of heat. It is advisable to wait several hours for the mixture to cool down before using it.
