Adhesive cement for pools C1TE
GECOL Extra is a high-resistance cementitious adhesive with extended open time, developed for laying conventional ceramics on interior tiling and flooring and exterior pavements and skirting boards.
It is a high resistance, thixotropic adhesive with a long setting time.
Designed for the placement of glass linings in swimming pools and environments with permanent humidity.
Features
Suitable for laying conventional ceramic tiles indoors and outdoors, on common masonry supports and even on large-format ceramic bricks.
Valid for the placement of glass mosaic in swimming pools.
Suitable for lifting a thin layer, masonry with blocks or aerated concrete partitions.
Application, both in a thin layer and in a thick layer (up to 15 mm).
High humidification. High impregnation power, both on the support and on the ceramic.
Perfect thixotropy. Zero vertical slip, offering excellent performance in diagonal placement and even in atypical placements (from top to bottom).
How to use
1.- Previous recommendations
During placement, avoid the penetration of water between the support and the piece and provide final protection. With large-format tiles, it is advisable to apply double gluing. It is advisable to use homogeneous adhesive thicknesses. In the application on large-format ceramic brick, it is vitally important that they are free of remains of plaster or stucco used to raise said ceramic partitions. It is advisable to respect joints between pieces of 3 mm indoors and 5 mm outdoors. When building a wall with aerated concrete blocks or partitions, the application thickness will be 1.5 to 2 mm.
2.-Preparation of the support
- As a general rule, all supports must be: resistant, clean, stable, rough, flat, with a certain degree of absorption and humidity and perfectly set.
- On porous supports or in warm times, it is necessary to moisten it beforehand and wait for the water film to disappear.
- Types and states of supports:
A. Cement mortar support:
Firm and clean with optimal resistance and having complied with all the shrinkage characteristic of the mortar.
In case of mechanical projection, soak several times after two days to avoid drying out. Float in all cases.
B. Ceramic brick support:
Solid, clean, stable and having fulfilled all its retractions.
C. Aerated concrete support:
Solid, clean and stable.
D. High absorption supports:
It is advisable to apply a coat of GECOL Primer–TP beforehand, to reduce water absorption, harden the surface and facilitate the spread of the adhesive.
3.- Preparation of the mixture
- Knead the product with clean water, until obtaining a homogeneous paste free of lumps.
- Let stand and remix the paste again.
- The amount of water indicated on the package is indicative and may vary a small percentage depending on the geographical area of the production center.
- More or less thixotropic mixtures can be obtained depending on the application to be made.
- Adding excess water can cause thickness decreases in the plastic phase of drying, thus reducing the final performance, as well as a worse application of the adhesive.
4.- Application
- Apply GECOL Extra on the support.
- Align the tiles with the use of spacers.
- Adjust the thickness with the help of a notched trowel, chosen according to the format of the ceramic tile and the flatness of the support, ensuring that the back of the tile is fully wetted.
- Check that the tile does not have traces of dust, dirt or poorly fixed layers.
- To obtain good adhesion, it is recommended to first apply a thin layer of GECOL Extra on the support, using the smooth side of the trowel and then apply the desired thickness of the adhesive, using the appropriate notched trowel, in relation to the type and format of the tiles.
- The double gluing technique is recommended in cases such as large formats, floors subject to heavy loads, materials to be polished, etc.
- It is not necessary to wet the tile before laying. Only in the case of very dusty backs is it advisable to wash with clean water.
- Lay and solidify the tile until the mark or groove left by the notched trowel breaks, periodically checking the stickiness of the paste (lifting the already glued tile).
- The open time of GECOL Extra, under normal conditions of temperature and humidity, is 30 minutes.
- However, adverse environmental conditions (intense sun, dry wind, high temperatures), in addition to a highly absorbent support, could significantly reduce this time.
- Periodically check that the adhesive does not form a superficial film, and that it is fresh.
- Otherwise, it must be combed again with the notched trowel, but never moisten the adhesive.
5.- Grouting
- The joints are sealed with specific materials from the G#color Juntas range.
- When good chemical resistance is required, use anti-acid epoxy compounds from the G#color Epoxy joints range.
- Respect movement joints on any structural joint present in the building.
- Perimeter movement joints in corners and changes in plane, height or material.
- Movement joints that make up panels with a maximum surface area of 50 m 2 indoors and 25 m 2 outdoors and 16 m 2 with dark colors outdoors.
- All movement joints must be filled with G#color Elastic–MS deformable mastics.
Employment limits
Do not use:
- On deformable plates of laminated plaster, metal, plastic materials or concrete covered with a thin seal without optimum consistency.
- Do not apply if the support has a humidity higher than 3%.
Performance
Simple gluing: +/- 3 – 4 kg/m2
Double gluing: +/- 5.5 – 6.5 kg/m2
