Expanded clay is a lightweight clay aggregate that is expanded in a rotary kiln at 1200ºC. It is a natural product, light, resistant, fireproof, non-flammable and unalterable over time.

It serves as a filler with good thermal and acoustic behavior, such as screeds, screeds and insulation of floors in buildings, filling and formation of slopes on roofs and filling of air chambers. The mechanical and physical properties of the aggregate make it suitable for geotechnical, agricultural and landscaping works, drainage and isolation of slabs on the ground, retaining walls, planters and garden roofs.

Recommendations for use

Expanded clay can be used loose, watered with cement grout or as an aggregate for making light concrete. In the application such as mortars and concretes, mix with 2/3 of the expected water, pouring the rest at the end, to avoid excess water and fluctuation of expanded clay.

Transport and storage

During transport and storage, there may be a segregation of the finest aggregates, alterations in the moisture content, and a decrease in the apparent volume due to the compaction of the material, similar to that of other aggregates such as sand and gravel.

Hygiene and safety

Inert product, it does not represent a risk to health or the environment. In some applications, the formation of dust can occur, so it is advisable to use protective masks.
